Hello Friends,

Omniture seems to be a very popular and technically strong tool for web analysis, since all big companies use this tool for their web traffic analysis.
I hope some of you must have used it, I cant since i dont have access to it but yeah would love to learn.
Can some one please explain how it works , i know its a web tracking tool, but whats the basic method, does it analyze the server logs or a tracking code in the website is sufficient?
also what extra features does it provide apart from the regular features like - total no of visited urls, visitors, unique visitors, impressions, errors, keywords list, most visited pages, images etc.
please let me know the whole concept if possible, it will be a great - great help.

Thanks a ton

We have another forum for Web analytics so your thread may be moved there. There is an older thread on Analytics that has some links and information.

Perhaps the best thread that discusses the programs like Omniture that are usually used by Fortune 500 companies and the alternatives more commonly used by smaller e-commerce sites in the ROI tracking tools thread. That thread contains a lot of information specifically about Omniture.

Although the general information is probably still accurate be verify any points important to you as all programs change. There are companies that sell current market research comparing and reviewing the various Web Analytics solutions available. If you don't find what you're seeking in those threads and are willing to buy a comparison, post again and I'll get you a current link.

Installing, configuring, and learning to use any analytics package is a major investment so you don't want to do it more than once if you can help it. There are some excellent blogs and books on Analytics. You can find links to those in the Important PPC Keyword Advertising Resources thread.

The two sources that immediately come to mind are Occam's Razor and Web Analytics Demystified.

One article I particularly recommend is The 10 / 90 Rule for Magnificent Web Analytics. Whatever solution you end up with, if you don't extract "actionable data" and then act on it there will not be any value to having it.
